symbols in flash

In flash, if I make a symbol with more than one frame, a wheel turning, for example, I have no idea how to get it to move when I put it in the real movie.
I can get the first frame of the wheel all over the place, but I have no idea how to make it show the second frame, or loop, or whatever.

If it's a movieclip, you can only see the symbol moving in the swf. If it's a graphic, you need to change it from Single Frame to Loop or Play Once in Properties.

another thing: is there a keyboard shortcut for deselecting?
having to switch to the arrow tool every time i go into a new frame is annoying.

You can just click an empty bit of the stage.
