Most common problem with diesel engines: people put petrol in them.

when you say not starting, do you mean literally nothing is happening when you try and start it or it turns over a couple of time then conks out?

The engine is probably fed up with having an owner who doesn't bother with punctuation.

to awnser all questions:i have a tractor because my dad brought it for me as a graduation gift
yes it is from 1977
i dont put petrol in it
yes the starter motor runs and the engine turns over but nothing else

^^I don't know a huge amount about engines and that but if I was to hazard a guess I would say it's probably a problem with the fuel lines, I guess. Not getting enough fuel into the engine. Or maybe one of the pistons being slightly out of place so it can't get enough pressure to ignite the fuel I suppose. Unfortunately if it's the latter it's gonna be a bastard to fix.

But like I say I am really not expert with engines or anything, and unless you are pretty good with them I'd advise against too much fannying about with it.

I have 5 tractors, a forklift, an ATV, a landrover ... and a combine.

Do I win ?

also, you did try recharging the battery didn't you, apart from that I don't know your probally going to have to get an agricultural enginer out.

To be honest, you won't get much help here, because most of us don't own tractors or any other farm machinery for that matter.

Have you tried searching google for a Classic Tractor forum?
