View Full Version : Your Favourite Tipple.

So, let's face it, we all like alcohol (unless you're weird).

I have been inspired by slight drunkeness to make a thread where we can discuss our favourite mind-altering beverages. I did a search for similar threads but only found something from 2006 and i think it's probably not worth bumping...

So, currently i am drinking Waitrose Vintage English Perry - 500ml 8% vol.

It is pretty delicious. It's rather dry and fruity but also has a fantastic oaky twist that just makes it awesome. It's also 8% which makes it pretty good value for money at £1.16 a bottle. This is very important given my rather dire financial siuation.

If I had one criticism, it would be that it is a bit too carbonated. However, it's still very drinkable.

So, what is your favourite tipple?

I'm not into wine nor spirits and alcopops.

Tequila with lemonade. Gold only. Double. Get it. Now.

Or latey after watching that advert telling you how many units are in a glass of white wine, I REALLY fancy a glass of wine. Every time. I am definatley drinking more.

scotch whiskey, usually with lemonade
vodka, with all sorts.
spiced rum, with lemonade (any other mixer and the spiced bit is just pointless)

I think i'm gonna start drinking cider more, since I don't quite hate it, and it's useful to have a pint type drink rather than just spirits, cocktails and alcopops.
cider and black possibly.

schnapps isn't bad

Either cider or a double southern comfort and coke. But I drink most things and tend to change around when I feel like it.

I've had wine three times and every time, very very very very bad.
Very bad.

IMO soco tastes like liquid refreshers.

At the moment I'm actually drinking to compliment my moustache, so Famous Grouse. I also have a bottle of Glenlivet something somewhere. Also, thanks to my Russian bf there is always vodka floating around the house, so I've been having various vodka concoctions, the worst being a White Russian (milk and vodka).

St. Hellier's Pear Cider

Yes it is rather nice isn't it? Even if I do tend to hog the bottle a bit... ;)

Also rum, the proper luvverly dark stuff. Maybe white if I'm in one of those rare moods and I want a mojito. I'm such a lush that I basically drink most things (of good quality of course!) but those two are my favourites.

Darkscull

Famous Grouse.

it is quite nice, famous grouse.

however for some reason at most places I prefer the house scotch. it's usually a similar quality and taste, and I prefer it to most posher ones.

one thing I have to say though:

no one ever, ever, ever get co-ops own scotch.
you know scotch has a sort of woody taste?
this stuff is like eating a table leg. seriously. it doesn't have any of the good other notes and such, just wood.

Gin and tonics (with ice and a slice -lime)
White russians (kahlua, vodka, milk)
Moscow mules (vodka, ginger beer, Angostura bitters)
Spiced rum and ginger
A sexy red wine (not too heavy)

I LOVE http://www.ctt-reisen.de/shop/catalog/images/0_DRINK_016.JPG. Mmmm fiery!

there's a pub/bar in aber that has loads of cocktails, but I can never think of what to get and when I get served I end up asking for the same thing.
I've gotten a bit better and thought ahead recently though.

a very nice cocktail I had once was:
Cointreau,
baileys,
chocolate milkshake,
chocolate sauce.

twas a liquid chocolate orange!
it wasn't as nice as it could be though because you could taste the baileys, and they put ice in it.

I like pear cider and berry ciders but I can only drink 2 or 3 an evening.
I am into drinking red wine a lot at the moment, I can pretend to be classy.

Other than that it's some form of spirit plus mixer, be it a long vodka, a apple sourz and lemonade or the old favourite, vodka-diet-coke.

Cider is for gays who can't drink real alcohol!

This attitude seems to be very common up north. I went to Lancaster University for a few terms and cider was classified a girls drink. Of course, the cider I was generally drinking was 6-8% rather than the rather measley 4-4.5% manly lagers that all the other people drank.

Also Northerners don't understand Pimms, which is a summer drink that can only be drunk in the middle of the day accompanied by a barbecue. Obviously they all classed it as another "girl's drink".

Sorry if I've offended any northerners but you suck so stop complaining.

I go for Boddingtons if I can get it (which isn't often), but usually I get Fosters. I also quite like Kopparberg since being introduced to it. If I'm in a club or something where a pint would likely get spilled, I get a bottle of Budweiser, which I think a lot of people here think is piss, but whatever, I don't hate it and usually by the time I hit the clubs I'll have had a few and will be beyond caring :p

I like Southern Comfort too, though I might get around to trying some different whiskeys at some point.

I'm pretty much boring when it comes down to drink...

I mostly drink tennents lager, JD, Smirnoff Ice.

But I also drink wine usually cheap and fruity...
and theres also this strange fruity drink that my friend always has in his fridge it tastes brilliant but I cant remember the name of it :(.

...however unlike my friends who always drink when they go to the pub I can go and drink coke for the night quite easily.

strongbow is well cheap, gets you pissed and tastes good (in my opinion)

cba with spirits or wines though, they just make me feel sick rather than drunk

I do not understand Buckfast.
You're not supposed to, think about the people who drink it regularly; to know their mind is to know madness. I can speak as an expert in buckfast psychology as I see a lot of it drunk (Lurgan (Where I'm from) is known as 'buckfast central').

My friend worked in a bar here so even though I don't get drunk I have tasted quite a lot of booze. Guinness and other stouts taste insidious (bird-shit and peat as it's called here), cider tastes like apples and vinegar, wine tastes like grapes and vinegar, beer tastes like... beer; 4 bloody hours after I'd tasted it. -_-

Weirdest one I've seen is sambuca which dissolved the top of a leather shoe.

Strangely I find many spirits to have a far more interesting taste than beers or wines.

I'm not a fan of strongbow to be honest (as i always normally skate around the subject, mostly i plain lie), I find it a bit weak. Strongbow cirrus on the other hand, is lovely.

I went to the Bath and West show a few weeks ago and came home with a few litres of cider from several farms around Somerset. That was good, nothing like a good bit of Somerset scrumpy.

I really don't understand all this Kopparberg drinking business, when I was over in Sweden they seem obsessed with making every fruit cider imaginable (apart from apple weirdly), but after a week of drinking various types, they all had three things in common - too sweet, too artificial tasting and after six pints of the stuff (it was hard work I tell you) I didn't feel the least bit pissed. So I just gave up and went to the Absolut raspberri fairies or for the funny shaped bottles of wine from good old Systembolaget instead. Thinking I'd gotten away from all that when I got home, one night I went and saw Useless ID (who were in my opinion pretty damn useless but others seemed to be enjoying it) and as I was propping the bar up shouting at the barmen for a double vodka and orange juice, I looked around and noticed all the old punks and wannabes were bloody slurping Kopparberg! Heavens above! And then Wetherspoons started selling it and now every cat and his dog and indie kid are drinking it like it's the bee-knees! Euuuuuuughhhhh! :x Sorry for the rant :$

Edit: Actually after consulting we didn't go to the Absolut raspberri fairies at all, (well we did sometimes) having lingonberry vodka (with a bit of lemonade) instead.

When I go out, I like to rinse my boyfriend's/mate's wallets and order cocktail after cocktail.

White Russian is my favourite, followed closely by Pina Colada.

But to be honest, a good strong polish vodka will always do me nicely, with cola and ice. I also have a soft spot for Bailey's but only in small doses.

In order :

1. White Russian
2. Pina Colada
3. Vodka (or as my grandad pronounces it - WADKA!)
4. Bailey's
5. Sambuca and lots of it.

Weston's extra dry. 7.5%. strong enough to give your brain a kicking while tasting like semen of the gods. and wetherspoons have it in bottles (usually) and oh man it is awesome. Second only to Old Rosie which is the commercial version of scrumpy that one has bought from the dodgy looking chap behind the local pub while he is with is sister/wife. Old Rosie, in enough quantity makes one almost a real man, even when you are a woman.
Only proper inbred produced cider will make one a real man and unfortunately I can't buy it up in the north east...

So instead, I drink gin. by the bottle, by the bucket. As long as it's london and dry and is mixed with tonic, I'll drink it.

So, currently i am drinking Waitrose Vintage English Perry - 500ml 8% vol.

If I had one criticism, it would be that it is a bit too carbonated. However, it's still very drinkable.

So, what is your favourite tipple?

fermented beverages have Carbon Dioxide as a by-product - alco-pops and mixers have carbonated drinks. :eng101:

^^requesting that comic of "strongbow, it's fucking rank piss" because that's just true. Actually I think most cider you can get in the pub is pretty awful. This is including Magners and Bulmers which are better than strongbow at least but still don't do it for me.

Anyway I guess if I had to choose I can only really say that beer is my favourite drink. Not that bothered what kind as long as it's not stella. With Ale I guess I'm a bit more picky, and my favourite ale is Broadside but I don't drink ale unless I'm out with my dad nowadays because it is deeply unsexy.

Red Wine, vodka and coke, tequila, sourz and lemonade (like some faggot) and Long Island Ice Teas are also things I have been known to drink.

sourz and lemonade

this is the drink of winners. i love cherry sourz and coke, with a splash of vodka in it if i'm on a mission. i love my cocktails too, as long as they don't contain any cranberry juice (i'm allergic) or any form of peach. anyone who was unfortunate enough to be in the car with me on the way back from cheesebinhouse earlier on this year heard me moaning about how i hate the smell of peach, as a bottle of archers leaked all over my legs.

i'm also partial to the odd pint of guinness or old rosie (totally agree with the 'strongbow/blackthorn/magners/bulmers tastes like crap' brigade), and i could drink red wine by the bucketload.

my favourite drink, however, is a mixture of baileys and amaretto, topped up with milk, but i don't have this very often because it has about a million calories in it. in fact, i don't drink much of anything very often, sadly, because i'm always working. the irony is that i'm helping everyone else get drunk and can't do so myself.

I'm mainly a cider drinker, and I can't seem to drink more than one pint of beer. I like the taste of it, but I can't drink it for a whole night to get me drunk. I get pretty sick of it after two or so. Am I doing it wrong?
I like miller, and heineken as far as ones on draught. Been years since I've had fosters but I think I liked that one too...

Strongbow
Pear Cider - Koppaberg if I can help it

Southern Comfort and Lemonade (see above brackets)
Blue WKD

And ALWAYS tequila if its time for shots. That or Traffic lights - 3 different Sourz shots in a row.

Pippins is disgusting cider - mainly because it destroys your stomach and therefore your night. It's stocked in a pub that will not stock kopparburg, fuck knows why.

And yeah, double SC is lovely.

I'm totally 10 day bumping this because alcohol is delicious.

I don't know why but right now I can't stop drinking Belhaven Best, maybe because it's easy on my insides and the only effects I feel are caused by the degeneration of my brain cells. The only drawback is that it's 3.2% and today's modern alcoholic prefers more of a kick to their pint.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40713000/jpg/_40713742_fountsandpint203220.jpg

The other thing I've been drinking lots of for a while is sparkling wine. I'd like to say Champagne but that would be a lie as that is a far rarer occurrence, but yeah, cava etc = good.

Ooh, and if anyone is in Sainsbury's you should try this. . .

It's sparkling wine made with strawberries and it's very nice, also it's only £5.49 which is awesome. :D

I will never understand why people buy so much magners/strongbow/other cider, spend that much money, and then complain that it doesn't get you drunk. Of course it isn't going to get you fucking drunk you nutter, it's not got the volume of spirits or the weight of lagers! Gargh!

Having said that, I maintain Strongbow is a fantastic first drink to have. After that, I'll move on to the Millers or the Budweiser. I can drink most lagers tbh, but I despise Corona, with or without lime/lemon/whatever. It actually just tastes horrible to me. Not a great fan of Guiness either.

Spirits wise, Jagerbull, Jagerbombs, Jager-fucking-anything dominates the WANT list for me. Southern Comfort, Lemon and Lime tastes fucking beautiful as well, it's definitely the tipple of choice when I want to stick with one drink that I won't get sick of, especially when I'm on a limited budget. Morgans' Spice and Coke is fairly nice as well (Ditto JD/Coke), but Gins and Tonics make me want to hurl violently.

When it comes to shots, if Jagerbombs are not an option, I'm a tequila man myself. If I want more of a kick, I'll have red Absinthe (although I think I've finished that bottle as of last night. :( ). If I want to just get wasted and forget everything I do for the next 12 hours, Stroh -80- is the way forward! :D

Actually, I did have a fruity wine on holiday called melecotton (or melecoton, cba checking.), and it was the single most orgasmic drink I've ever had. Tasted exactly like Ribena! :D

Strawberry vodka, it's only £4.99 out of Lidl's and is quite strong. It's really thick and it's like syrup (smells like the strawberry part of a Muller Corner) and I found out on Friday night you can even mix it with water and still get a dunt off it.

wow. Just... wow. That has got to be the complete opposite to me. Strongbow is a terrible drink, and you can't even call Budweiser and Miller lagers. They are so far removed from what I would call a lager (something like Staropramen) and just seem like a fizzy rice drink :/ It just leaves me feeling like I need to burp and there are just too many tiny little bubbles!

Damn.

To be Honest, I can't really tell you specifically if Millers' is a lager. I think Millers' Genuine (stuff I usually get) is just a draft beer or something (hence the name making 100% more sense I guess.), although bud definitely is a lager (I remember having a huge argument with a mate about it, and pretty much the entire pub was siding with me, but he still thought [and thinks] that it's a draft.) I do understand the frustration about the burping though! :p

Also, it's only your limit if you have to be told what you drank! :p

Also also, I'm not angry against lightweights in general, just the people who complain that spending a twenty on cider doesn't get them drunk, when they could very well just switch to a slightly more alcoholic drink, or even dare a shot or two of something.

Though I must say that Manochmore is one great competitor against the Ardbeg. Mmmmm, single malt whisky!

I also enjoy stout beers. Guinness is one favourite, but I refuse to drink it from bottle or fucking can. St Peters Creamy Stout is a good one aswell.

But if you want to drink much then a Mariestads Guld is the shit!

Normally I jusy stick to the boring old lager though, I know where I am with that.

Oooh ooh ooh cocktails, erm whatcha call it...an Orgasm! I was on the all the time in Menorca, it's Baileys, tia maria, some other creamy liquer, and cream, it's understandable how it got the name.

This is blasphemy! I would say that Ardbeg is particularly fine but i'd prefer an 18 year old Talisker or if it's pay day push for the best and get a Lagavulin.

I know I've already posted in here but I have to express my opinion about Kopparberg Pear Cider.

I had some whilst in Spain (obviously it was imported) and god I wish I hadn't had it. There was no kick to it, and it was far too sweet, almost like some sort of Pearade fizzy drink, or pear juice with more sweeteners than actual pear juice.

So it was disgusting. I drank it, only because I needed a drink, but I shan't be trying it again.

Give me Bulmers (by H.P. Bulmer) please!

I'm one of them wine-guys. It's superior alchohol, as soon as you get the taste for it - you can either get a costy bottle and enjoy it while muffing about at home, or you can get a cheapsy one from a supermarkets if you ought to get drunk. I think wine is the only drink that can get me smashed for little, if anything, above five pounds. When talking wine, I'd prefer red any day, preferably not-too-dry if it's for drinking alone. Dry wine can be great with food though.

Other than that, I'm very fond of beer as well. I used to call Corona Extra my favorite, but ever since I saw their add saying "Ultimate Party Beer" I don't fancy them as much. Now I guess It'll be the italian Bierra Mortierre (propably spelt wrong) which is both cheaps and delicious.

I must add before the end, however, that I'm also in a state of near-worship towards Jack Daniels whiskey. I don't mix it with cola, though, only drink it pure, so I often have to be a little more than tipsy before I can drink it fast enough for me to get hammered.

Oh, fun times.

EDIT:
Would drink wine all night on a night out if it wasn't so expensive.

Where have you looked? I usually find the most discounty supermarket available and seek out the cheapest bottle in there. I don't know wine-pricing from around where you live, but I usually manage to find a bottle for around equalent to one and a half pound. And a few of those, and I'm downright messed.
