Hmm, interesting. I was also intrigued to note that they have released a higher-graphics version (in beta, for subscribers only at the moment). I used to play this game a lot 'back in the day', and loved it. This was on the old-graphics version before the current normal-graphics version was released (March '04, if I remember rightly) - and I carried on playing for a while after that.

As for a book - well, I don't think I'd read it, but if it does have a good story, I guess it's a nice idea to have something that ties into the game world like that.

I think Jagex should be applauded, the main reason I haven't played Runescape in years is that its full of kids and this book might get kids into reading

I used to play runescape a few years a go.
mostly all I did was light a fire and dance in it and say "penny for the guy!"

I would of stopped after the first few seconds but people kept giving me free money for it, I though it was hilarious at the time, now looking back I realised I wasted my life.

Reason why I quit runescape some time ago was that it just got boring, you basically were mothered by the rules and they took trading so they ballsed it up pretty much. Im gonna check the new graphics when they are available for free.

As for the book, if you know who the characters in it are in the description, it sounds pretty shit.

I loved Runescape back in the day. I think the main reason was that I had friends doing it and that it could be played on any computer and was cheap. I grew out of it, I guess.

The book seems like it has hit it its target audience at least.

I was somewhat addicted to it in the classic days as a kid... The graphics "update" is actually what had me quit. Glad I did tho, there so many better ways to spend my time.

Quite a lot of MMORPGs are just clicking, and the quite a lot of point and click games. :p

Not that I play runescape or anything, but the appeal for most people is the amount of stuff you can do. The whole fishing/mining/hunting/tailoring/members crap like pickpocketing is rare in online games.
There's a (download, not browser-based) game called Mabinogi, which looks interesting (and less shit, lol). It has the same kinda stuff, including the ability to compose in-game music and age, but the beta is US-only. :(

runescape was only fun really if you were playing online with friends personally i prefere wasd based games which are in 3rd person etc. if runescape was like this it might turn out to be better because there were more things to do other than just killing things like you do in games like rappelz.

Hello, Marxist Pig; long time viewer first time poster, I'm aware that I'm about to be bombarded with insults of 'noob' or even worst a 'runescape sympathsiser' as this is both my first post and one in favour of Runescape.

Just thought I'd give my opinion, because this is the internet and everyone must (it's the law, apparently), I like Runescape and have played it for a couple of years now and it just keeps getting more indepth and better, and ever updated and improved normally on a weekly basis, alot unlike other MMORPGs, especially browser based. And as for what the last 'low' was before this one, I haven't a clue, (well maybe the home teleport).

In respect to the book, I think its a good idea and has a specific audience (which I'm not a part of) and fair game to them for promoting themselves in different ways.

I'll be quiet now. Bring on the criticism.
