View Full Version : Nex Gen Prince of Persia
So PoP will be coming out later this year featuring a new look, new plot and new moves, plus more mechanics justifying your own death.
Now usually I am to Prince of Persia what Yahtzee is to valve, even excusing the annoyances of PoP2 and the long windedness of Assassin's Creed on the condition that they keep feeding me nuggets of free running, wall jumping goodness. This, however, does seem to be venturing lightly into the anime flashy lighty realm that may turn out to me awesome, but equally may turn out to be uncomfortable.
Anyway, here's the link:

And here's the wiki:

There's a developer walkthrough somewhere that I may post later.

It looks dire ;/
the backgrounds look fine but the characters look really cartoony and totally out of place.

Looks fucking awesome. I much prefer the comic book look to the "uber fucking bloom" look everything else seems to be taking.
Also, I will buy it purely for using Sigur Ros in the trailer.

I like the graphics and it's nice they are trying something a bit different but I don't know if I'll get it yet, there are a lot of good games coming out in the near future that I want so I'll see how it reviews and stuff first.
It's good they are starting again with the story though, I haven't played any of the past PoP games so I'm glad I don't have to catch up on 3 games worth of content if I do decide to get it.

the only thing I'm not hot on is that it seems only the characters have outlines but the environment does not
other than that, it looks lovely

The music in the E3 Trailer sounds like Tinky Winky singing falsetto because his gonads got mangled.
Other then that, I think the new cartoonish graphics looks weird, i'll probably get used to it like I did with the cel-shaded Zelda graphics.

The music is Sigur Ros. Edumacate yourself.
Here is a developer walkthrough I found.

It is only the first part but I trust you guys can find the second part on your own.
Looks frikkin' sweeeeet.
edit: video looks like off screen job so is a bit dark...

"...Ubisoft has emphasized that there will be no way to die in this game..."
from the wiki
how will that work? i'm new to the PoP series but even so wont that make it a bit easy? It sounds like the other charachter just saves you whenever you are about to die, supposedly meaning you can just run off, heal and come back again and again and again
someone please correct me

It's essentially a checkpoint system that doesn't have a "You died! Ahahahahaha" screen.
Whether enemies will have their health down I don't know but given that all the enemies yo face will be in an arena style boss battle sort of thing it seems unlikely.

It looks godd although i'm not a big fan of the graphics, i don't really like that style.
However i'm pretty sure it will be a good game, I may end up getting it.

I'm intrigued I'm a big fan of the Sands of Time trilogy for all there shortcomings and I cant wait too see the acrobatics beefed up by next gen systems.
On another not I heard Jerry Bruckheimer(not sure if that's spelled right) is doing a movie of PoP anyone know if this is true
Not sure who's doing it, but yeah, a PoP movie is in the works.

That's only assuming the damn thing had 'em in the first place.

Disney's doing it. Kinda scary, but Jerry Bruckheimer's supposed to be working it. Rumors have been going around as to who Prince'll be played by, but nothing remotely serious has even been mentioned. I've got an aunt working in Disney down in Burbank, I'll see if she knows anything. It's her b-day today, anyways.
update: she confirmed it is in production, yes to Jerry Bruckheimer, but can't say any more today since she doesn't have the schedule in front of her. She's going to call me tomorrow morning (probably afternoon for most of you guys) once she gets her hands on the details.

Er... yeah.
Anyways, if she is gonna call me back later today (which I'm not holding my breath for, it IS secret Disney production stuff which is risked at being leaked to the public after all), than she should let me know in a couple hours.

I will definately be getting the new PoP game. The Sands of time trilogy is my favourite game series ever, I've played through each one numerous times, maybe even in the double figures lol. I've only ever played the first game from the original trilogy and that game really takes some patience.
I'm not sure what the movie will be like... I would like it to be in cgi like some of the cutscenes in the games.

I think a PoP movie could be good, obviously depending on casting etc.
Will they take the story from the original trilogy or write a new one?

I'm kinda lookin forward to this new prince of persia... But I can't help but think that the prince in that add looks like a mix of Adam Ant and Billy Joe Armstrong (Or whatever the lead singer of greenday is called)....

She never did call me today. Either she forgot or the intel is (at this moment) classified. I'll call her up tomorrow and see what's going on.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast for the Prince (guy from Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain).
Alfred Molina has been cast for Sheik Amar. That's all I know who is acting.
Aaaannnddd someone has managed to snap a sneaky picture of Gyllenhaal practising riding on a horse with a sword.
Mike Newell directing (known for directing HP:GoF) and Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

I think I remember reading that the films story will be unrelated to the games. I'm not 100% though.

My aunt's being a little tight-lipped right now, as I kind of expected, so here's the IMDb page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473075/plotsummary) for the plot.

It's pretty much the plot to Sands of Time.
Not a bad thing...

But if you died, how would you work the whole "reverse time" thing?
WelshTerminator

I seem to manage it in the games...
The film has epic potential to capture that video game thing by having the prince die every now and then and then reverse time. I wouldn't want them to do it too much, but once or twice just to shake things up would be cool.

If the past 3 PoP games, and Assassins Creed are anything to go by, then I'd imagine this next game shall be amazing!
And a film would be legendary - but they'd have to do it right, else i imagine several thousand PoP fans would post aggressive blogs all over the interweb in disgust.
Also; I hope the Prince has the same voice in this next game - as it seems his voice has changed in every one. Would nice if he kept it for once :)

The next PoP game's supposed to be someone different, right? Do we even know if the guy's even royalty? For all we (I) know, he's just a random traveler with a mystery girl in tow, going through the cursed cities and blasted lands. He may be a prince, then again he may just be named Prince. There very well could be no mention of the word "prince" in the entire game.

I heard he was just some random adventurer at the start of the game and he becomes the Prince either at the end of the game or the series (can't remember which or if I'm making it up completely)
Probably the latter as they're unlikely to reveal the end before the games even out.

Well, if they say that he's not a prince at the start and the title is Prince of Persia it's easy to see how I thought he would become a Prince at the end.
