Well... there was a Best Start Up Sequence thing and I thought it would be about opening sequences from games but it wasn't so I created this.
The best opening movies...
In my opinion, all the Command & Conquer games have brilliant, unsurpassed opening sequences. Particularly Generals...
"In the modern world, great leaders resolve their conflicts, with words.
Words like...
<music kicks in>
Scud Launcher
Tomahawk Missile
Carpet Bombing"
hehe... beautiful.
I also like the opening movie of Stuntman if anyone ever played that.
It was a good game that sadly took forever to load. What are your favourites?

Day of the Tentacle was pretty special.
I also loved Full Throttle's intro, I think I have it as a .mov file somewhere, I'll upload if I can.
Red Alert and RA2 get honourable mentions as well.

I liked Red Alerts, even if it was totally unrealistic (Stalin going back in time and making Hitler vanish...). Warcraft 3s is good, Age Of Mythology rocks, the Harry Potter one is CRAP (since when did Harry and his mates cross a Bridge Of Kahaz Dum like bridge suronded by lava in the book, film or game?).
My faveorite one though is Final Fantasy 8s. That battle between Squall and Sefier is brilliant!

The best has to be Return to castle wolfenstein
You have to watch it to understand.

My all time favourite has to be FF8.
Its a beautiful intro and an excellent fight scene, though honourable mention goes to:
Fallout and Fallout 2 < "War..." < The narrator's voice is perfect, a classic intro.
Any C&C game < very well thought out, and surprisingly good at predicting the future. I cant help but get the feeling that the terrists got their idea from the New York level of RA2.
Half Life - although quite tedious, it did have some interesting quirks, such as seeing the guy you play in Blue Shift near the beginning.

Warcraft 3

yeah, that was an awsome intro. the game was a little too short, but it has probably the greatest intro & end ever. and the soundtrack.

my favourite gaming introduction sequence would have to be (yeah ok, shoot me) half life's, in the tram. I loved the way you could move around and look at as much or as little as you wanted.

that half life one really pisses me off. i mean, who listens to it? when i randomly feel like completing it yet again, i have to sit though the cut scene you cant skip! or i go and have a cuppa tea.

Don't really have a favourite opening scene but one FMV scene that made me go "wow!" was in FFIX when Bahamut was summoned to destroy the Lifa Tree and there was lots of explosions and magic and big monstery things. I don't really remember if that was what happened, anyone who's played the game will know aht I'm on about, hopefully. :nana:

I really liked the opening sequence of C&C: Red Alert 2.
I also enjoy the openings of the Dynasty Warriors series.

You should either watch the intro from Mechwarrior 3, or the intro from Mechwarrior 4.
Both are stunning war peices, depicting the action amazingly using talented actors mixed with good CGI.

the incidious ordos
i read the book of Dune and then played the game round my friends and i still have absolutely no idea who the Ordos are as they arnt mentioned in the book
i would say it would have to be Dynasty Warriors 4, its not so much the video its more the music and the video fitting together. Its brilliant how the camera pans upwards and the music changed rhythm and and and... although ff8 is cool:)
edit- i forgot to mention the beginning of Dr Muto (if anyone asks I did not buy it, no really i didnt) its so funny.

Tekken 3 on SonyPS at the time it was being used. I quite liked it when people were fanatics about PS. There are many more eg syphon filter... but on PS during the time that was good.

I remember Max Payne having some nice movie sequence to it, But C&C have always been good, But the winner for me is the opening to FF8 it looked so sweet!

Of course FF8s rocked. This is Square ya know! (well its Square Enix now but at the time...). The music is brilliant, Squalls blood is so realistic!

You know the first time you watched the RE2 intro you were like, "Wooooow..."
At least, I was.
The Chrono Cross intro still gives me a chill. Uhhh... so good.

I think the best FFIX video is the Black Waltz 3 chase through Lindbluns Gate. That is some dam fine piece of FMV!
Mind, the bit were Zidane goes to rescdue Kuja from the Lifa Tree right at the end (if im wrong, correct me, I aint played it in AGES), and Zidane is dodging all of the plants and stuff...it was good but they should of done it in FMV instead...but lets get back on topic.
Global Ops had a pretty nice intro movie. :x

Fallout's 1 and 2. 2 especially. With the enclave soldier just totally shooting everything. And then the "war, war never changes..." I love the guys voice.

Aye, both would make very good openings to actual movies :).
This is going back a bit now, but does anyone remember a game called Microcosm on the amiga? Now that had a (for it's era) stunning intro, and some damned impressive scenes throughout.

Dawn of War
A space marine squad under attack from orks
Orks charge a space marines
dreadnought saves space marine captain
Space marines charge at orks
Gory battle with chainswords and stuff
Explosion kills off most of the space marines and orks
Space marine captain grabs blood ravens flag
Runs up hill being shot at up the way
Gets shot in jaw
Plants flag at top of hill
Hundreds of space marine drop ships fall from the sky
A great feeling of patriotism arises in the viewer

I like the WoW FMV sequence, but Bliz really needs to get their cinematics crew doing some other sequences that occur in game. Seeing the Onyxia reveal in SW in CG goodness would kick ass.
However, my favorite of all time would have to be Sam & Max.

This thread is pretty ancient...
However I'd say the clashing Armies and Metor rain of Warcraft 3 s pretty cool
And the zoom out and zoom in for FF7 was good

While I'm here I might as well put in another vote for Final Fantasy VIII.
I quite like the opening sequences of the Armored Core games too.

The beginning to RE4. Love the discordant Spanish hillbilly music and the thing watching the policeman from behind the trees.

I loved the beginning of both Fallout games, it was a great intro and bought you smack into the game world.
Also I must say I loved the dawn of war intro, it kept me watching it over and over again.

I think the huge bump may be due to searching for the title?
It beats my 1 year bump of the monkey island thread to post the lyrics of 'a pirate i was meant to be'.
My fav intro movie is the freespace 2 one, just for the whole loneliness of it, with the crashed hercules and its long dead pilot slumped against it still grasping a holo picture viewer of, if i remember correctly, some family members

Best opening movie was from G-Police methinks. Written by a professional scriptwriter, and totally in CGI, it was so big you had to skip it in three chunks. Awesome set up.

As everyone has already said, the C&C games have good intros, but the Black & White one is pretty good before you actually see the real graphics.
But the besterest ever has to be Grim Fandango's. Period.
Youlikeyams?

The intros to Metal Gear Solid (all of them) are always epic - from the moody elevator climb to the jump from the George Washington Bridge and the incredible HALO jump from MGS3 - and they're the best intros I've ever seen.
The intro in Half-Life (1st one) I also liked because it let you move around, which is something rarely used in intros. This was also used (although not in an intro) in the mission briefings in Mercenaries.

Ill go with that and the intro to kingdom hearts, great music, great visuals, and a beautiful opening.
