... asks Z. Weren't expecting that, were you?

Some of you may know already more or less what this is going to be all about. The way it normally works is that I set you a load of challenges when I can, some of you do them and so people get to be the best at the game. Here's what I'm thinking this time:

As usual, I'll be doing most of this. The game itself won't be starting for a little while as I'll have important stuff to be doing fairly soon. Ideally it'll get started about mid January, so about 5 weeks. In the mean time, the first thing I need to happen is for people to say they're interested in this and they're going to play. Then, for every one person that joins I'll make another challenge. However, what I'd also like them to do is to each make up one challenge of their own.

Once the game begins, this is how it works. I'll have two challenges per person prepared (half by me and half by everyone else), and I'll select one of mine and one of yours at random for you to attempt. There will be a set amount of time to try these which might depend on how many people enter and how hard the challenges are. Once these two finish, whoever has performed worst overall will be eliminated from the game. Shortly afterwards, another round of two challenges will begin and at the end the worst player overall will again be eliminated.

This will carry on until there are two players left, by which time there will be four more challenges to go. These four will all be put to the final two players at the same time, and the overall winner will be whoever does best on the last four challenges alone. In the event of a 2-2 draw, I'll be on hand with one last tie-breaker challenge prepared, and by then there will definitely be a winner.

What I need you to do now is to decide if you want in, then post here saying so, and then get working on your challenge while I get another one of my own prepared. As well as this I think we could do with a name for the game, and as usual comments/questions/suggestions welcome. Things may become clearer later on, but for now - who's up for this?

Are the challenges going to be similar to your other games?

Sign me up, although it'd be nice to have an idea of what the challenges will be like. :) It'll help me come up with a suitable one myself...

I'd also like to join. Though yeah, what kind of challenges? Making a snowman or eatting 68 hot dogs kind of challenge?

They'll be more the sort of stuff that doesn't take a lot of effort to prove you've done it and mostly involves stuff either here or somewhere else on the Internet. Vercci's sort of on the right track - they could well be similar to ones I did in previous games, have a look for an idea of what they're like.

I'm guessing some people would like me to say more about the challenges. Can do!

- For your challenge (and mine for that matter!) you need to PM me your idea, making things as specific as possible so I can post it here.

- It needs to be something that everyone can at least attempt; challenges involving something on the Internet such as a game work quite well (especially since many of them have scoring systems!), as do challenges where the only thing required is to read the challenge post and have a think (e.g. a logic puzzle).

- For every challenge the most available is 100 points (always given to the player(s) who perform best) and the least is obviously 0. IF the nature of your challenge means you can't enter yourself (e.g. it's a question and you know the answer to it) then you can still submit this as a challenge and will automatically score 50 points.

- Keeping with the scoring system, anything which separates people out a lot is preferred. So if your challenge is a question that people have to answer, the only possibilities is that someone answers it or they do not answer it. So think about other ways of separating people - e.g. the faster people answer correctly, the more points they get for it.

- Possibly more to come, ask if there's anything else you'd like to know.

The problem with this is being online at the right time.
That could severely impact ones ability to score or win (like it did last time) in a head to head.

I'm not playing if Smartie is.

Maybe the head-to-heads could be for the later/latest rounds then. If that makes sense.

@Shalashaska: haha I bet. Still, you could always get 2nd :p Plus is Smartie in?

Maybe we could put a time, when to be online, for the task?

Everyone stuck for what to do for a challenge?

I have no ideas, Can you elaborate on what we have to do for the challenges? Would it be, say, find the webpage of billy the weirdo?

How about screen cap the screen that says they finished the online versions of popcap games? I just love popcap games.

^ Yes this is a good idea. Online games work well since everyone can try them, but (normally) require at least some skill so not everyone can complete them or do them to the same standard. If it's a game you can complete then fine, but a game with a scoring system is even better since it can put everybody in order of how good they are.

@arf: I don't understand the question :p But if for example that's something you could easily Google then maybe not. As for challenge ideas, as argh said online games are good but there are other ideas. Something you make up yourself and then post, for example - e.g. a word/logic puzzle, an image that you either get people to identify or answer questions on - is good as it's not too easy or too hard. And, for example, there are other things using the Internet which aren't intended to be games can be used as them, such as Google (search on there for Google Whacking if you haven't heard of it already). As well as that you can do contests using things that everyone has access to, e.g. something online or that everyone owns, that either I or someone not involved in this could judge.

No specific dates yet but I could start doing this in about a month's time, so if these could be ready by then that'd be good. (Really you'd need to make a challenge to take part or it wouldn't work...)

I'll join in, I loved the DCG and the other one :p

For those struggling to thnk up challenges, see the ones from the 'Daily Challenge Game' or 'The Challenging Game in which Forum Members Get into Teams and Play Challenges'. Needless to say, don't just knick them from there though as the answers are given more often than not.

so whats actually happend?

ZOIDBERG

Well basically no-one's made a challenge yet. I've not done that many cos of exams, will do a load in about a weeks' time. As long as people do theirs, since it'd only work if I do as many as everyone else, which would also mean only people who made a challenge taking part... hint hint :)
