This is the thread for all things related to the WSU BSc in Pwnology.

I will personally be tutoring this BSc. I have over 15 years experience of pwning noobs at various game on various formats. I am a world renowned expert on Sensible football and unbeaten in over a decade. In addition to this I am fluent in at least 4 dialects of l33t and have personally beaten the internet.

The course, like all others, will be done over a period of Six Weeks. During these Six Weeks you will be required to complete Twelve Tasks. These tasks are as follows:

Week 1:

Task 1: If you don't have it already, download and install Soldat on to your PC. Win three fifteen minute games against X computer opponents of X skill by getting the most frags/kills. Proof Required: Screenshots of final scores posted in this thread.

Task 2: Start and complete ANY GAME of your choice, from any genre. The only criterion are that it must be an installable PC game, not an online flash game, and that it has to have a specific action that you have to perform in order for the game to be considered completed, ie. killing a final boss, performing a final task, winning the world cup etc. Proof Required: Photographs or Screenshots of the very start of the game and the end, showing you have completed it.

Week 2:

Task 1: Put your new Soldat experience to good use. Play an online game of Soldat against at least 3 human opponents and win by getting the most frags/kills. Proof Required: Screenshot of final scores posted in this thread.
Task 2: Contribute meaningfully to the console thread of your choice 5 times over the course of the week. Proof Required: Post a link to your first post of the week in this thread.

Week 3:

Task 1: If you don't have it already, download and install Little Fighter 2 on to your PC. Win a tournament bracket in Championship Mode againt 7 (or more) computer players. Proof Required: Screenshot of final tournament bracket.
Task 2: Win an online matchup of a game of your choice against a reasonable number of players. Proof Required: Screenshot/Photograph of final scores to be posted in this thread.

Week 4:

Task 1: Put your new Little Fighter experience to good use. Complete the Stage Mode on at least medium difficulty with a character of your choice. Mad propz if you can do it on difficult. Proof Required: Post screenshot of final screen in this thread.
Task 2: Make a successful new thread in the Gaming forum on any topic that you wish, as long as it is appropriate to the forum. Proof Required: Link to the thread in this thread.

Week 5:

Task 1: Complete the History of Computer Games Quiz. Proof Required: Send PM to [murray] with answers.
Task 2: Write a short piece [500-1000 words or so] about your favourite game of all time. Explain why it is your favourite game, what you think makes it a classic, why it stands out over similar games etc. Proof Required: Link to post in Favourite Games thread in Gaming subforum. (Create thread if it doesn't already exist.)

Week 6:

Task 1: Start and complete ANY GAME of your choice, from any genre on at least HARD (OR EQUIVALENT) difficulty. The only criterion are that it must be an installable PC game, not an online flash game, and that it has to have a specific action that you have to perform in order for the game to be considered completed, ie. killing a final boss, performing a final task, winning the world cup etc. It is preferable that it is of a different genre to the game completed during week 1, but not mandatory. Proof Required: Photographs or Screenshots of the very start of the game and the end, showing you have completed it and one of the difficulty selection screen.
Task 2: Make an appropriate tribute to your favourite game. This can be in the form of a hand/computer made picture, a song, anything you can think of. Proof Required: Will differ depending on how you pay tribute, but post whatever is necessary in the thread.

Like all the other degrees You will need to successfully complete 8 tasks to get a basic degree, 9 tasks to achieve a Second Class (Lower), 10 to achieve a Second Class (Higher), 11 to achieve a First Class, and the full 12 in order to get a First Class Honours. The Faculty's decision on your successful completion of a challenge is final.

Enrolment for the above course has now begun! If you wish to take this course, please sign up now in this thread. This thread will be where all things related to this course will be posted, including the proof that you have completed tasks.

After enrolment, to start your degree you must make a post in this thread stating that you are beginning, and you will have 6 weeks from that day to complete the course.

Do we have to buy the full version of Soldat for this or will be able to finish the tasks with only a free account?

Also, does it have to be a computer game that we start and finish or could we take a picture of the intro and outro? I don't have any computer games that have a full story.

Nah, you don't have to spend anything, free version is fine!

I don't understand the second question...

Basically I was asking if it has to be a PC game. Could I do a console game? I wasn't very clear on that in my last post. Sorry.

Ah right, no, all games of choice can be console games, you just need to photograph them instead of screenshotting.

cool, Im in in that case. And by complete a game on hard, you mean oon the hardest difficulty?

[murray]
05-05-2009, 04:24 PM
Hard difficulty or above. You know, its usually a variation on Easy/Medium/Hard, but if theres E/M/H/Impossible or something then hard or above is fine. I take it that you want to start right away?

HEres the ending cutscene, which includes me escaping on a boat

I did the soldat stuff, but it wouldnt let me copypaste the screenies into paint.net...I'll try again later.
Also I choose the xbox thread for contributing.

Sounds Like More Challenging Than I Anticipated, Still, I've Got From July 5th 'Til September Off. Does It Have To Be All Done In 6 Weeks?
Can I Take A Gap Year?

Nope, sorry, 6 weeks, although people have been slacking in the other degrees, but that's partly down to my not having time to whip them in to shape.

Ok. I'll Tell You When I Start. (Now Is Somewhat Inconvenient Due To A Levels) Shouldn't Be Too Long Though... I Imagine.
