Alright, so throwing an idea about here. What about a forum version of texas hold em? The dealer, deals each person two cards (which they could physically do with a real pack of cards) them PM the player what they have. The players then post what they want to do, and at the end of each stage, the dealer then posts what the next draw card is? It may sound crazy, and would probably take a long time to play each hand, but would it be worth a try?
Anyone intrested please post, and If enough people are, I'll start up the 1st hand.

What would we be betting? Fictional monies?

PS: I miss rupies.

Nimblewright

Sure, why not?

It'll be fun... or not... or I'll just shut up...

Anyway, coun't me in

harryashfield
23-04-2009, 08:41 PM
Yeah, fictional. I don't think we're allowed to bet real monies. Say each player starts will like, 50 'credits' or whatever. Unless people want to make it interesting, in which case there's always paypal :D (that's a joke, people. Or maybe it isn't. [waits to see how people react to confirm if it is a joke] no, it is.)

NB: A knowledge of how to play is a good thing for this. So try to only sign up if your knowlege of the game goes beyond 'casino royale'.

allfalldown
23-04-2009, 08:53 PM
It never even occured to me that real money could be bet, I was just thinking how it could be kept track of, is all. Will money won carry over to the next round? What about people who lose all their money?

Sign me up by the way, though as you say, it will take ages to play a round. Maybe to keep things simple we should keep it to only four people at a time or something.

It may sound crazy, and would probably take a long time to play each hand, but would it be worth a try?

I am up for this, although the time strikes me as a big problem. Perhaps we could have timetabled forum member games on a play money poker site?

[murray]
24-04-2009, 12:22 AM
This sounds like a good plan, although if you wanted to play online on a poker site than I think you'd need to shift it to circle jerk planning in gaming. If you want to play on the forums though then you're in the right place.

As for real money, I don't know what Weebl's perspective is exactly, but I'm guessing that if we allowed real money transactions to take place between forumites as a result of a forum game then it would be him that would have to shoulder the responsibility, and I'm guessing he's not really down with that. In other words, no real money, 'credits' sounds good though.

Nimblewright
24-04-2009, 05:14 PM
Maybe to keep things simple we should keep it to only four people at a time or something.

I agree...

If Harry would agree too, we'ld only need one more person...:trex:

harryashfield
24-04-2009, 07:49 PM
Well I'll deal, so unless some kind of poker genie is going to tell you all what cards you have you're going to have to find someone else.

As for the real money thing, I wasn't that serious, but if it were to happen (theoretically... don't bite my head off) you would all send me the amount, and I would it turn send that to the winner. Or, if you trusted each other, you coud just send them the winnings.

That was a joke though. (aha. lucky I pre-empted this situation. Nyeh nyeh nyeeeeh. [/Confirmation])

Once we get a fouth, The first round will begin. I'm going to suggest we don't have blinds? And each person starts with... say 50 'monies'? (my currency of choice)

To save people holding out, say each tournament has 3 rounds. (3 Hands)
If people lose all their monies, they're out. I'll give a summary of who has earnt what at the end of each hand.

As for Money carried over... I think it would be best if people started with the same. Not to give an advantage to the winner, who, if they are that good, should be able to win it again.

I may even make an animated gif banner for the winner's sig.

err... yeah. So what do you think?

I'll also post a table so you know who goes in what order.

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/6589/pkr.png (http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pkr.png)

So Nimblewright first... etc...

Nimblewright
24-04-2009, 08:34 PM
Yay much, fine by me...

Blinds wouldn't have much use if we only playes three hands, so good idea to drop them

Smowy
24-04-2009, 09:09 PM
Im in. Will there be no betting order then, since everyone finds out what happens technically at the same time?

allfalldown
24-04-2009, 09:28 PM
I don't see how it can work without a betting order. I also don't see why we need to PM harry with our actions, wouldn't it be easier just to post them here? I suppose we'd have to wait for harry in any case though, since once everyone has bet or whatever, he'd need to deal.

Actually yeah, I think it will definitely be easier if we just post our actions here. If we have to PM everything to harry, we'll have to wait after each person's turn for him to tell everyone what's going on. I'm sure we all know enough about Texas Hold 'em to look after ourselves for a few turns, or at least to correct someone if they go wrong :p

Just a suggestion but maybe flash chat would speed things up.

I did once find a good site that explained the rules really well, but I've never been able to find it again. I did just find this one (http://www.launchpoker.com/texas-holdem/rules/) which also explains quite well.

There's also this Texas Hold'em game (http://www.miniclip.com/games/governor-of-poker/en/), played against bots, if you want to see the rules in action. It helped me to understand a few things I didn't get before.

Given that (apparently) there was a Poker championship in Sports and Bets a while back, I'm torn as to where this thread belongs. It is after all, a forum game, but it is also related to betting...What do you guys think?

Nuclear Spoon
25-04-2009, 12:49 PM
The poker thread in SnB was slightly in different, in that an external site was used and someone kept track of the scores.

You can see it here (http://forums.weebls-stuff.com/showthread.php?t=27123)

I guess it would be plausible to keep both running but I have a feeling one or the other would attract the majority of players, making the other redundant.

End of an Era
Apr 14, 2009
Well folks, after almost ten years of fun and games, it is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I have to announce that this is it; as of 11:00 CET today, Tuesday the 14th of April 2009, PokerRoom.com will no longer be open for online poker.

PokerRoom first opened for business in 1999 and through its originality and loyal player base quickly grew to be a giant of the online poker industry. We have seen players qualify online for just a few bucks and turn it into tens of thousands at the biggest poker tournaments in the world and seen guys that were used to playing against their mates in lounge rooms mix it up with the very best players in the world.

BEATME x taking a pot from Joe Hachem at the 2008 WSOP Main Event and then telling him to take it 'easssyyy' comes to mind.

But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and with the closure of PokerRoom comes the expansion and growth of bwin Poker. The huge amount of PokerRoom players who have migrated to bwin just proves that when one door closes, another one opens.

Anyone who has not transferred to bwin will only have the option to transfer when they log in to the website, but our community Pokah is still thriving and new Pokah sign ups will soon be available.

What else is there to say? It's been a lot of fun... thanks to everyone for making PokerRoom.com such a great place to be .. see you on bwin!

I agree with allfalldown that we may as well post our actions here, but keep card information to pms. Live chat via IRC could work too, perhaps with a game summary posted in thread afterwards?

Normal betting order is needed to keep things coherent as well as, even with 4 people, at least 1 blind. We don't want it to be possible for people to see the flop without having put some 'money' in, it removes an important element of hold 'em strategy.

harryashfield
25-04-2009, 06:22 PM
Well we have our 4th, Smowy.

I'll pm you all with your cards and then you can post your bets in the main thread. I never suggested PMing me those... that would be stupid.

Each player starts with 50 MONIES.
For each hand, each player puts 5 into the pot initially.

And I have said I will summarise, don't panic Zackron!

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5660/pkrw.png (http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pkrw.png)

Here's the table.

As it stands, you have all put in 5 monies for the first hand, leaving you all with 45 monies each.

NIMBLEWRIGHT is the first to call, post your action, so allfalldown knows what to do next.

allfalldown
25-04-2009, 07:54 PM
My bad, I thought you'd said to PM you with our actions.

And hang on, why do we all have to put 5 monies in? Don't only the big and little blinds put money on the table at this point?

harryashfield
25-04-2009, 08:30 PM
Normally, but with only 3 hands (for time purposes) it would mean someone ended up lucky. Besides, this way, you have more of an incentive to play.

It's only the first 'tournament' remember. I'd like to hold several more, or let others hold several more, which we can improve on as time goes by.

I would be in for this, however doing it forum stylee is way too time consuming and not really user friendly. personally I'm always hauting facebook poker.
might it be an idea to schedule in a tourney for a mutually agreeable time and we set up a private table

Or If you can come up with a better way of doing this count me in.

Possibly this does need more thought. I'm still up for playing it through on the forums though, it could be worth it just to see what the problems are. I'd probably agree with the facebook thing if I hadn't managed to go without joining facebook so far.

So, to summarise round 1.

Smowy won the hand, winning the pot of 50 monies, leaving him with 85.
Allfalldown folded at the first stage, having bet 15 monies, leaving him with 35.
Zackeron and Nimblewright folded after seeing the flop, staying with 40 Monies each.

Round 2 will begin shortly, I'll PM y'all with your cards shortly.

Did you guys feel that this worked OK?

harryashfield
05-05-2009, 06:18 PM
Speaking as the guy that ran the game, I thought the first round went fine. Obviously, you can all make suggestions to make it better, but otherwise, I thought it ran okay. There's no time obligation in each round, so it can just run slowly over a long period, and people can simply make theire moves as they log on.

harryashfield
11-05-2009, 07:53 PM
Well then...

With a whopping Pot of 88 Monies, It's allfalldown vs Nimblewright. Allfalldown has gone all in, meaning if he loses this hand, he's out the game. Nimblewright keeps his dignity with 5 monies left.

HOWEVER.

I'm afraid I appear to have made a monumental Cock up - and accidently sent you both the same card. I'm sorry about this - it only just occured to me when I was checking what I initially sent you.

Here's the thing though. The actual card I meant to send one of you, WILL NOT AFFECT THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME.

So where we go from here is up to you. We could call the hand off, and restart it, or simply let you both call and play with the same card appearing twice.

Sorry again about this, I can't believe I was so stupid.

allfalldown
11-05-2009, 07:58 PM
*dies*

I vote for starting over.

But how the hell did you manage to give us the same card? I thought you'd have an actual deck of cards there and be dealing it like you would for any other poker game, without reshuffling it or anything like that :p

If Nim goes for a do-over as well, can we see what cards we each had? I'm always curious to know these things :p

harryashfield
11-05-2009, 08:03 PM
I did have a deck - but the reason for me making the mistake will seem ludicrously obvious when I admit what the other card would have been.

Nimblewright
11-05-2009, 08:07 PM
Do-over it is

So there you go. Allfalldown, I meant to deal you the JACK OF SPADES. I had just Pm'ed Nimblewright and got confused. Sorry again - but to clarify, Allfalldown would have won anyway with his two pairs.

Because he also got to call first, I was just going to announce him the winner, and move on, but that just felt deceptive.

So my bad... I'll PM you all double checked round two cards again. And as a gift for my cock up, I'll give you all an extra 10 monies.

Ah yeah, money doesn't get carried over to the next round (if there is one) does it? Awesome, this could be fun. Or maybe everyone will just bet everything on the basis that there's nothing to lose :p

How much monies has everyone got now? I'm on 35, I believe.
