If you've managed to take a cheeky glance at the info thread (http://forums.weebls-stuff.com/showthread.php?t=78238), you may have noticed the possible forum project of 'achievements'. At the moment, this is still just an idea, but I would like to see if there is any support for it.
Basically, the concept is based around the Achievement or Trophy system present on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively. Forumites are awarded little tokens for doing certain things on the subforum. So, for example, say Sir [murray] were to post something stupid, he'd recieve an achievement. Or if he were to win a game, he'd recieve an achievement. Perhaps he finds God?: he bags an achievement.
Anybody who posts in the subforum is entitled to collect any achievement that they like, but they must first post in the 'Achievement Thread' (in want of a better name). This isn't a sign up for the system as such, but more of a tidier way of organising the forumite's collection. Each post would represent a person's individual achievement 'profile', that would be edited by either myself or [murray] with an achievement when it is unlocked.
The achievements themselves will be small images (probably about 80x80) that I will make myself if we go through with the system. An achievement list will also come into place so that people know what to shoot for.
Have anything to add or ponder, slam it on down. S'all good, brah, s'all good.

Lovely idea. It'll definitely liven up the forum games forum.
Thumbs up from me. :D

Sounds like a brilliant idea. :) I don't think I'd actually participate what with hardly posting in this forum, but it looks like a lot of fun!

On behalf of the sane, non-reich-inducing side of the moderator team here, I wholeheartedly disapprove.
Nah I'm kidding man, it's a cracking idea.

I thought it was good, but where was the 'Grood' option? :(
Good it is, then.

I just feel they create this odd competative atmosphere where you feel you have to do things you wouldn't do otherwise, so as to get more points than your friends. Like on Dead Rising, which is supposed to be an RPG-ish game where you choose how to act like a prat. Instead you feel obliged to act like a prat how Microsoft want you to, which is kind of against the whole idea of the game.

true, but among my group of online friends we have a no achievement whoring or face us never shutting up about it till you're used to it(we usually stop about then) or you go bat shit insane and blow your brains out rule, then risking the fun times with friends for an achievement doesn't seem so worth it making the games fun for all.

i find them rather cool, gives the game more playtime when you try to get 1000 best to use 360 achievements sites

I'm all for it as well. It'll give me a reason to participate in this forum. Can't stay in Gaming forever...
So get drawing Drat. Now. Draw.
Edit: Actually, can I help with ideas for the achievements?

Sure.
If you've got any ideas, just PM them to either myself or [murray]. We'll process them, fill in a report, and you should have confirmation of the practicality of your concept(s) by the 24/09/09. That is, ofcourse, provided that the weather is okay. We don't work on bank holidays or the apocalypse.

No time to read thread, this may have been suggested, but could the achievements go under people's rep like gifts used to with the store?

Achievements don't seem to be working, do we still need to sign up or something? If so I'm in.

No, there are no such things as achievements yet. They're a WIP, still being thought about.

I think achievements are a fantastic idea. I really want to give them a go. :)
Any news on how the idea is coming on?
