What makes a film, tv show or play? The fabulous little quips that the writers come up with. These unsung heros really make a character or scene come to life right before your eyes.
(... And the oscar goes to... )

kidding,

Seriously though there are some lines that just stick with you because of how well they're written!

Hedwig, because I was just thinking of it and the line ALWAYS makes me laugh...

" Its a car wash ladies and gentlemen" (for those of you who have seen it YAY, and those of you which still haven't I"M CONCERNED):p

yes, without a good script nothing (and i mean nothing) will save a movie/tv show/play.

That's true... but Alien had hardly any script at all, there were no outstanding one-liners. The last fifteen minutes, Ripley says nothing, but it's a fantastic film because of Ridley Scott's skill at creating suspence and atmosphere.

Still, it's pretty important. Remember Gigli? 'It's turkey time, gobble gobble'. Save me...

Character movement and action is part of a script.

One line that shall be passed down the ages when the movie is long forgotten, is that famous killer sentence

"Hasta la Vista............Baby"

translated it means "see you later"

I learned this the hard way in college. We made a film and the script was pretty awful. We didn't realise how awful until after we filmed it. It got to the point where I couldn't watch the last few minutes any more. It almost physically hurt me.

Sometimes dialogue isn't so important though. How many martial arts films are there where you don't really pay attention to the plot and just watch for the action?

Also, I think a film can be worth watching for the visuals, even if it is an otherwise bad film. The visuals would have to be really good though.
