What do you think is the Best/Worst ending of a video game ever? Me?

I'd go for...

Best:
Final Fantasy 9. It had me in TEARS ( I dunno why, probally just the thought it completing my first FF game :))

Enter The Matrix. Wasnt actually GOOD in anyway. I only complete the game to watch the Revulution trailer but still...

Worst:
StarFox Adventures. The game was good but I did not enjoy the ending. Very corny. The death of Andross, one of the best villians ever, is a crime against humanity! And Falco is back on the team so more insults...

Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut: Er...two words. Sonic. 3D. They dont mix, forming a bad game. And a bad ending. Nuff said.

Best: Planescape torment. Really sad and great. But then again it had a great story overall. Of course The fallout games rock to the full extent of the cool.

Worst: Hard to say....Oni is fairly dissapointing...Shadow watch was quite anticlimactic..but that wasn't a game to be played for story. It was sort of a "play over and over" thing.

I really disliked the Mario Sunshine ending cos the boss was so easy for a mario game it almost made me cry. well. not really.

I liked the little bit with Bowser and Baby Bowser right at the end though.

SSBM doesnt really have an ending so that kinda sucks....


I like the ending to BAldurs Gate Dark Alliance-- ITs such a Bitch of an ending.

Half Life's ending was fantastic i thought. The one for Independance War II was damn fine too.

worst? would definatly have to be Aliens vs Predator I's Marine ending. You walk into a room after fighting for SO LONG and then just get killed. If there was a huge build up to the Execution that made me try to beat it time and time again that would of been good.

Exactly, it wasn't a dream at all, it was an illusion cast by LeChuck to try and lead Guybrush through the gates of hell and into his undead army, except somehow, Guybrush escapes in a dodgem.

I feckin' love those games.

The ending to FFX made me cry. The last thing that Yuna says always sets me off for some reason. It was worse the first time because I thought Tidus was actually non-existant.

Sonic Adventure on DC also had a fucking cool ending. (Not the character endings, the 100% complete Super Sonic ending) that just fucking rocked.

There are too many games with just a screenshot and 'congratulations!' at the end, so I can't really give a worst ending.

Lasts longer when your adventuring for all the mini statue things, hearts, all treasure, etc.

Halo has many endings depending on the difficulty and stuff.

I personally like the one where Halo blows up.

Seeing the two species who have fought and killed eachother realize they were both gonna die and embrace in a finality before Halo explodes was a great ending I believe

Anyways MAFIA had a really weird ending, but it was pretty good. I just wish they had more stuff to do in MAFIA because once you complete it, thats it :( That was were they made their mistake

Worst? Command and Conquer General: Zero Hour, there single player campaigns had no thought what-so ever put into the ending like the first one. So that sucked, otherwise it was pretty good. I dont know any other bad endings

Great endings = Practaly all adventure games Lucas Arts made, they are all either funny or cool..
Mafia, fantastic ending, really true the real world historie, could easily have happened...
Metal Gear Solid series. Especialy MGS2... it was.... uhm... disturbing :S....

bad endings = cant think of any atm... will come back if i get reminded...

Command and Conqour - Generals... well... it just... ends... and nothing more... all the other Cn'C games had cool endings...

Agreed.

SA2 was also pretty good, both had a fantastic song behind the last level and made the game worthwhile.

MGS2 had a very interesting ending. I played the game through 3 times and understood it a little better each time. It makes some interesting points about society and raises some good fun conspiracy theories. However it DID seem a bit tacky with all the movies of american peoples walking in new york. Nice cliffhanger though.

Metroid Prime had a pretty pig awful ending but was rewarding after kicking seven shades of shee out of the final boss.

Zelda OOT had a far better ending than either of windwaker or majora's mask although of the 3 games i enjoyed majora the most.

id better stop now before i go through every game ive ever played and that would take forever :S

Good endings: Max Payne and The legendary Halo ending made me chuckle a bit. Planescape Torment - Has to be one of the best endings to a great game ever.

Something lacking endings: Metal Gear Solid 2's ending was a bit limp, and I just felt that something was lacking. The same for Splinter Cell

Bad Endings: Timesplitters 2- You fly away, The End. Nothing else springs to mind currently, I'll edit the post if I can think of more.

I liked Shogun Total War's end when it shows your statue in modern Tokyo, that was cute.
Half Life just rocks, of course.
And the secret ending of Dune (doubt many people will have heard of it - 1992 Virgin Games production, Adventure/Strategy game based on obvious film of the book Dune. It has the best soundtrack in a game EVER), when you cover Arrakis in vegetation.

Worst: Diddy Kong Racing. It just sucked, ok?

I reckon that Summoner 2's ending was pretty cool. I especially liked the story line- pretty good for a western game, I reckon. And the bonus ending- that's hillarious!

Best= Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (which NOBODY will of played!!!) It makes me cry so much!

Worst= The getaway, i spent about 5 months on that bloody game then its ends by the bad guy singing "long live hope and glory" then a ship exploding with crappy music! I was like....wtf was that all about?!?

I agree with everyone who says the ending to the final fantasy movie was rubbish, the whole thing is crap. They focused too much on graphics and not enough on the plot! The games are cool though.

Mechwarrior 3 & 4 - 3 is almost epic like a film, and 4 leaves you with a real sense of satisfaction.

Worst:

Slot Machines - You end up broke.

Well, you really couldn't consider the ending of .hack// games an ending, since the game just continues from that point in the next volume. I've seen the end of the .hack// series, and it's pretty good.

Best: .hack// (all except //DUSK), FFVIII

Monkey Island 3?! I was about to vote that the WORST ending ever. (well, its the first that springs to mind anyway)

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the MI series, but MI3 was so rushed. Look at the start where you are trapped in the pirate ship. Look at the attention to detail and the extensive animation (Guybrush picking up the rod and putting it in his pants).

Then look at the latter half of the game. You go to pick something up and it disappears when you touch it. The circus level at the end was a joke too.

As for the ending itself, ARGH! All that playing, and you got a few seconds of Guybrush waving on a boat. AND THAT WAS IT!

Seriously, the lack of decent endings in games is ridiculous. Obviously you play a game for the fun of playing it, but you should expect a lengthy ending sequence as a reward for completing it.

That doesn't apply to racing games and other non-proper story driven genres, but I think its an absolute necessity for plaformers, RPGs, adventure, action, FPS game etc.

there are a lot of very poor or non-existant ending sequences which make you wonder why the hell you played the game (ie HALFLIFE) but there are a few which are fecking awesome. Most Lucasarts adventure games have brilliant endings but I seem to remember that Monkey Island 3/4 werent particularly good. However, Mafia undoubtedly has the best ending ever. Either that or Full Throttle.

Actually, thinking about it, the ending of The Sims was teh bomb!

You have to do some weird trick when you defeat the harkonnens (like going to the palace, standing in front of it, then calling a worm to another seitch and waiting a few days) to stop the normal ending, so you carry on playing. Then you must plant bulbs in every single seitch on Arrakis, and you get the hidden ending, when Arrakis is green :D
