Indeed Mozart was a genius and one of the founders of the classical movement that broke away from the contrepuntal Baroque style because all the parts complimented one another instead of being independant and interlocking.

I do listen to Mozart's music - my favourites include symphonies 25 and 40, flute concerto and oboe quartet, but I think it goes without saying that Beethoven was ten times better.

ok beethoven is kinda good but if it wasnt for mozart we'd still be listening to music of the style of antonio salieri, who was a very baroque style musician.

Very true. I really can't stand most baroque music, just a few very specific peices - Bach's toccata and fugue in D Minor, and Vivaldi's four seasons.
Admittedly out of the three main classical (with a lower-case c) ages, I prefer the Romantic, primarily because of developments in instruments - the four greatest inventions for example (the piccolo, cor anglais, bass clarinet and contrabassoon). My favourite composers are Mendelssohn, Chopin and Grieg.

Grieg wrote the incidental music for Henrik Ibursen's "Peer Gynt" You probably have heard his music - the Alton Towers theme tune for example.
My admiration for Mendelssohn's music was brought about after we had to study the Midsummer Night's dream overture for AS-level music. Usually when you disect a piece into sufficient detail, you get sick of it, but in the case of this piece, it gets better.

actually, it was wilde who said "i have nothing to declare except for my genius"
but yes, mozart rocks. classical music is one of those rarely pure genres in which the most popular music is generally the best. which is nice.

I prefer Beethoven. He has a stronger style of music.
