That's meant to be like a cut-scene, where you con't control your character, so he freezes.

In related news, stalefish has done his first ever stick fu animation, with the suprise return of 'the pin', a sharp stick used to create funny death.

You go to www.imageshack.us, then you click on the browse button, then you look for the picture you want to upload, then you click open, then you click on the host it! button.

When the image is uploaded, double click in the first box with text you see, press Ctrl+C, Then you go to the topic you want to post the image in, then you press Ctrl+V, And then you reply! tadaaa!!! your picture was successfully posted!!

cool pivot yams. Hey can anybody help ive recently just got broadband and since havnt been able to upload pictures to imageshack or anything else. comes up with a message telling me that the "document contains no data".

Im guessing someone who posts allot of pictures will have had this problem at some time. Please post a simple to understand solution, someone..., anyone...

Also when i get this working i will post up the .piv file that has that walk in it that i got from my sisters animation book. Its real smooth.

Here's a good one.
Zip all your .stk's up and upload it to www.savefile.com - it's like a file-upload site similar to Imageshack.us. It's far simpler than having to get a whole site.

Walking with Stickmen Tutorial
Hello and welcome to my walking tutorial.
This method may seem strange but I hope you get the hang of it. Even if you already have a method for walking I hope you will learn some new things. Also, dont take this too seriously. Remember, Pivot is suppossed to be fun.

You can download a .piv file HERE (http://www.savefile.com/files/3326364) that contains a 17 frame step with nifty coloured stickmen for the 5 main frames you will make. Have it open while you go through this tutorial and you'll have no problems (hopefully).

Frames, Frames, Frames:
The number of frames i used in the .piv file is 16 per step. If your not bothered about making your walks smooth and you just want to get on with it, you can use 8 frames per step and lower the speed.

Method:
This only explains the leg movements. A small part about arm movements will be explained after.
The method i used for a step is as follows:

1.Start of with one frame with your stickmans legs apart. The back leg with its heel of the ground and the front with the toes off the ground. (PURPLE STICK, Frame 1 of .piv file) This is known as the contact position.

2.Press Next Frame and move the stick across horizontally until the back foot touches where the front foot is in the first frame. This is the distance your stickman walks in one step. The more times you do this the more steps your stickman is going to take. For now just do it once, you can always add them later.

3. Now were done with the Next Frame button. ("Huh? What? But how?") Instead where going to add frames inbetween the two we have already got. Right click on the second frame and click insert to add a frame before this one. On this middle frame change your stickman so the standing leg is almost verticle and the knee of the passing leg is just past the knee of the standing leg.
(ORANGE STICK, Frame 9 of .piv file) This is known as the passing position but i just think of it as the middle frame in a step.

4. Now insert a frame between the first contact position and the pass position. This is where the down position goes. The front leg is bent and takes the weight while the toes of the back foot are just leaving the ground.(BLUE STICK, Frame 5 of .piv file)

5. Insert another frame between the pass position and the second contact. This is the up position where the head is at its highest. The standing leg stays straight after the pass position but the heel has come off the ground. The passing leg stays bent and is moved slightly more forward.(GREEN STICK,Frame 13 of .piv file)

6. Now I think would be a good time to test what you've got. Put the speed bar to its lowest and play in a loop. If you think it could be improved then do it. Also remember that it doesnt have to be exactly the same as everyone elses. No two people walk the same.

7. Back to the whole frames per step thing. Now we are going to add frames inbetween the 5 frames we already have. This will make a total of 9 frames. That then means that it will be 8 frames per step. "Dont you mean 9 frames per step?" Nope, its 8, because the last frame is the Contact Position of the next step.
To make these inbetween frames (or inbetweeners) you just have to estimate what position the stickman will be in as it goes from the previous frame to the next.

8. When you have finished test your progress and adjust anything that you think could be better. When you are happy with it you could just leave it as that, sit back and say "Woo hoo, I made a step!" or you could take the time to make it allot smoother.
To do this you insert even more inbetweeners("Awww!"). Thats another 8 frames inbetween the inbetweeners and the first 5 frames you made (confusing huh?).

9. Test, Test, Test! If you cant tell whether your animation is correct from one step, then make a cycle out of it. To do this delete the last frame then go through all 16 frames and centre each of the stickmen. Then go through them again moving them up or down so that the standing foot is at the same level as in the other frames.
Test.

Arm Movements:
This is the bit i hate. I dont know much about the arm movemets except that the arms are at their widest on the down position and are almost side by side on the passing postion. Or you could just not bother with the arms by letting them dangle by the side. After all walking is mainly a leg thing.

Creativity:
This isnt a fixed rule for creating walks. If there is something here that you dont agree with then do what works for you. Be inventive. Try doing things with your walks that give your stickmen charachter like delaying the foot for a few frames then flicking it infront, slouching, leaning back with the arms dangling or taking tiny quick steps. I would like to see what some of you come up with.

Frame delay of 6 and it's still way too fast! Shit. I used 3 frames per word except when he got mad that was like 2 and on the word "fucking" I accidently used 1. I thought it would be quite easy to tell who is speaking 'cos when Edgardo talks the letters are all messed up, but I guess you'd have to watch it a couple times to get it. Meh it didn't turn out as goodd as it did on Pivot :nana:

Luttman, that was good. I see you like to use a lot of frames, that's very good. When you save it as a gif though, raise the frame skip to around 5 maybe to make it go a bit faster. It'll look much better since it's smooth.

Anyways, punching trout, it's good, but you need to makle it faster by shortening the frame length or just adding less frames. Also, when the guy who dies dies, as he falls, try to make sure he falls smoothly in every frame (move him down about the same amoutn in each frame). Of course, with practice, you'll improve, so I suggest make more! Good start!
