Not yet. I've heard theres a 3.2 which is meant to have fixed the bugs from the beta but it's not an official 3. Not seen 3.2 myself around either though.

Ermmm, I had the same problem on 2.2.5, the only way I could think of (after messing around with a lot of settings on pivot) was to save as a .gif, then reopen in flash and set the fps higher. Very fiddly though, so any other way would be great. Teri...?

On 2.2.5 save your .gif as 1/6 frame delay. Don't know correct settings for 3.

I always save my .gifs as 1/6 frame delay and have it possibly normally about probably just under halfway* on the speed bar. To my knowledge, my PC isn't slow, compared to some others I have been on. Just normal, I guess.

On windows fax viewer thing the .gifs will play slower. Try uploading them to pivothost or imageshack to see if it improves the speed?

Joujo, you can add sound to pivots by putting the final .gifs into something like windows movie maker of Flash and adding sound there. The actual 'pivot' package doesn't have the facilities.

Also, heres one of my files im working on. Dont ask what the weird short line thing is that runs the stickmen over. At 8 seconds, it shows "phew" only with the p backwards. Its called "xzdsgnld" because i couldnt think of a different name that is the same as the .piv file.


Theres also a 2 second random one called "you could be a hero" i thought it was longer actually...

Nice ideas Joujo, but very choppy, there's a tutorial on easing somewhere in this thread. Could be useful, just search "easing" in the search function at the top.

Not bad for one of your firsts but choppiness and stiffness is something you should tackle first. Then you need to work on making realistic movements. My tut should still be in here somewhere if you'd find it helpful.

Considering starting again but this time for fun not for the rank system. No more DD, PP or PS ranks, just doing it for the fun of it for now and maybe having a hand at the ranks again once I'm fully into it.

Also means this'll probably be the place for my animations to be posted as opposed to DD or PP (although PP is actually dead D: oh noes)

The animation was really not inters worthy, maybe med to high beginners I'd say.

The different characters aren't down to which version of pivot you use, it's to do with making them and bringing them into the window and using them like the default stickman (like you must have done with the clock) :)

hey guys i'm starting to make a pivot like none you've probably ever seen. this pivot is going to be a music video, which is really hard to do. so far i have about ten seconds out of 3 minutes 34 seconds done. i know pivot is usually better without sound but i just wanted to experiment. i will let you all know when it comes out so you can watch.

The way I use is to open it in flash and reset the fps higher. This is obviously a bit harder if you don't own flash :D

I think they run faster on t'internet anyway though.

Yah, I'll put it to a realistic speed but really one of the challenges of pivot is finding a an equilibrium between smoothness (and more frames) and realistic speed (at 12 fps).

I find cheating to be the obvious answer :D

In all totally honesty most people would recommend 2.2.5 over beta. There are alot of glitches with the beta which cna result in small annoyances such as random error popups to it randomly refusing to save a pivot and closing down after you've spent hours on it.

True 3 has the benefit of multiple backgrounds and sprites but 9/10 times the backgrounds look bad. As for sprites, unless its an all sprite animation they just look stupid.

As for the animation its pretty good :) wee bit stiff in places but good for not doing apivot in a long time.

Nice stuff Spoon, but the first one has a wee problem at the end. When fading out a character to white (or any colour really) make sure they are behind everything. This will eliminate the leg shaped holes in the floor we can see at the end of your animation.

No, I think you'll find that looks realistic. If you did actually fade something, the background would show through it, like the floor here. Putting the floor in front achieves this.

gif rape is the term where an animation goes REALLY slow, even though its viewed as fastest speed in Pivot

it happens all the time.

well in fact, you might not see anything wron in the moves. But some smaller details, would keep THIS intermediate instead of veteran.

Just like, no backgrounds, lack of blood, lack of effects, no camera movements, shortness.

Hey all!

Since I'm the primary developer of Stykz, figured I'd step in to clarify a few things about Stykz and answer any questions you may have...

Stykz was released as a Public Beta for Macs at the end of December, last year... it's gone through several rounds of updates and I just released the first Public Beta for Windows a few days ago. There are a number of issues that have been reported which I am working on as we speak, but the official 1.0 is targeted for 4/30/09, but I'll be putting out updates every week or two between now and then.

I know the interface is quite different than Pivot's, but I urge anyone who downloads the app to read the Notes for Pivot Users that appears during the first launching of Stykz (or you can view them by choosing "Notes for Pivot Users" from the Help menu). I am working hard to make things easier, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Most of Pivot's features are in Stykz, but they are not buttons; they are menu options or in palettes; the Properties palette for example, changes based on what you have selected.

In any event, if you have any questions, let me know...

I'm actually planning something like that - I can't make it exactly like Pivot, but I can get a lot closer as an option. Stay tuned to the updates, and you'll see what I mean a couple of updates from now... ;)

Nice! I have loading Piv 2 .piv files on the list of things to add for the version 2.0 release which will prob be at the end of the year. Actually, the current version of Stykz *does* mess with GIFs, if you don't use the 216 web colors, but I'm working on eliminating that problem. Unfortunately GIFs only support 256 colors max, and Stykz lets you pick any color you want, PLUS it antialiases (which uses up more colors as it removes the aliasing from one color to another). So I'll be adding a setting that will run through the current animation and pick the matching 256 colors to output. That'll take me a bit of time, but it should be done before the 1.0 is officially released in April.

There's a post on the Stykz forums about working with the "web safe" colors in Stykz... I can't post the url since I haven't posted enough, but it's at stykz dot com slash forums, and go to the "Improving Stykz/Stykz Forums" category and click on "Known Bugs and Workarounds".
