ok is a little bit confused for all my pivots have been changed to pictures of cars???
and like they all were working the other day (for i got the rep from them)
I AM ASHAMED!
I was banned for 20 days, and I wasn't here for longer than that, and the thread has grown by 3 PAGES?
WHATS THE MATTER WITH YOU? WHERE IS THE PIVOTING GOODNESS THAT THIS THREAD IS ALL ABOUT?
For those of you who have posted, well done! But to the rest of you: for shame. FOR SHAME.

We've been... *ahem*... busy... or maybe the quality is increasing, therefore pivots are taking longer on the production line.
Maybe (Major Rant) Pivot is losing its attraction... but that's just me. :rolleyes:
I'm going to try and kickstart it, with a little project of mine that will come into existance soon.

Well I have immense amounts of schoolwork, which leave little time for pivot. And when I do make one I try to make it of the highest quality, and they usually end up taking a few days.

i increased the frame rate but it didnt do anything, i put it to 1/100 of a second between each frame and it still runs like my other 2 up there. is that what u meant for me to do?

Yes and no. Most people, when they start save their .gifs at very slow frame rates, however you seem to have already selected a fast frame rate. One major flaw with pivot is that it can't get any lower than a 6/100 pause (which is what I use). If you to try run it faster, it will still use 6/100.
So there's really nothing you can do to speed them up (unless I suppose you have a .gif editor, that might do it). They are, however, extremely good pivots.
BooYa2733
21-11-2004, 02:53 AM
ok then, how do u make them smaller? the pivot might run faster if its smaller. do u just have to start out by goin to options and lowering the width and length? or can u change the size even if uve already created ur pivot as big as the ones ive done?

As far as I know making it smaller won't make it faster. You can, however when you save it change the option "shrink frames by" to 2 or 3. It does, however reduce the file size (and there's no loss of resolution during shrinking)

My first pivot 2 animation, my stick walking could use some (read: "a lot of") work, but i like the ladder climbing, and the concept makes me laugh at least.
Edit: Thanks for the tip, BooYa2733, thats what was wrong with it, I like the walking more now, even though he looks like he hasnt quite recovered from some MAJOR leg injuries and cannot run, but i attached the updated gif, and im gonna work more on my walking.

I find for my walking merely do a stance with arms and legs outstretched a short way, then move him to the right (or left) and bring his arms and legs in slightly. Then push them all the way back so it is similar BUT NOT THE SAME AS the last image.

for the elephant
File ---> load figure type ---> elephant should be there

this is by far my best pivot, and my longest.
its a recreation of one of my favorite stick movies of all time called "castle II"
u can check it out at www.stickpage.com.

24-11-2004, 02:38 AM
Well someone's addicted to pivot. You've really come far as an animator, all I can say is speed them up a tad. If you already have the frame rate at 6, make less frames. Also just minor details. For example when the copter lands, the mountains behind it shouldn't be visible. Nothing major.
BooYa2733
24-11-2004, 02:41 AM
about the mountains thing- they werent supposed to be mountains but rather the edge of the cliff that the copter landed on, but anyway, how do u make it so that the line disappears when something goes over it?
about making less frames - will that make the animation look choppy?
renatzu
24-11-2004, 03:04 AM
Not if you do it right. Mine are much faster, and very smoothe.
About making the cliff disappear there are 2 ways, neither are that easy. First off, you could have what is basically a big white block sitting in the middle of the helicopter, covering up the line. If the line goes into a corner of the helicopter, you may need a small line to obscure it.
The second way would to be to make the helicopter so that it's colored black. This would be accomplished while you're making the helicopter. Put a lot of thick black lines through it, so to make it look like it's solid black. You should probably make the lines static (click the button with the line with an X at the end of it), just to you don't accidentally move one while animating.
BooYa2733
24-11-2004, 03:18 AM
ya, i love that skateboard jack movie. fast and very smooth. i think i just need some more time to get the hang of it.
one more question: how come when ever i have more than 1 frame where nothing is moving, it just turns it into 1 frame. like, if i wanted there to be a picture of something to look at for a couple seconds i would just make the picture and press next frame a whole bunch of times and when i watch it on pivot it turns out like i meant it. when i save it as a gif and post it here its like it deletes all of the frames but 1 and theres just a flash of the image. a couple parts were messed up because of that in my last movie so id appreciate it if some1 could help me.
BooYa2733

u should make ur own stick figure or use the already made one called "man".
just my opinion, but i think it looks much better than the default stick guy. the stick person i made is in most of my animations including both of the ones i posted on this page. take a look at them. dont u think that kinda stick figure looks better than the regular kind pivot starts u out with?

26-11-2004, 04:49 PM
Alright Spiker, my wording may have been on the harsh side, but it's very true and there's no point in beating around the bush. The pivots were bad and I told you why, and then after a petty minus you go ahead and make another, completely ignoring what I said. You still have a guly gliding instead of flailing his arms and legs. Use the damned joints (e.g. use effort). No one else was given the magical secret to walking. Look at yourself walking, look at other people's pivots, and then play around until you figure it out.
As for BooYa2733, you really got better at speed and your pivots are coming out really nice. As for making your own man character, one (which looks alot like what you've made) comes default with pivot, along with an elephant, a donkey, a clock and a few other things.

Anyway, I decided to make a short little one, just because it's been so long since I've done one, and it came out really bad. Maybe it's just my computer, but it looks really choppy. I hope it's just my computer, because in pivot it looks fine.

Yes, don't put so much space in between frames. The fault lies not with the frame rate, 8 is in fact slower than I would reccommend (6, maybe 7). The problem lies with the animation itself, there's too much of a jump every frame. If you decreased the frame rate it would simply become slow and jerky, not smooth.

misterfreak 1812 and DragonBanana (basically the people who are currently doing most of the pivoting), you're both good. That's it, good. The animation is pleasing, but still a little choppy. There's a good attention to detail, but you could still utilize those joints more. Every frame should be slightly changed from the last. The animations lack structure or plot. They are short little humor snippets. I feel like a broken record, I've been preaching this same idea for as long as Pivot has existed, but people never do. Make a damned story. Don't make a 15 second animation, make something big, which no one does.
I've never seen anybody do something coherent except son-sketched (who will probably never open Pivot again), Water Marine (don't know if he's still pivoting), and myself (probably done for good). I guess what I'm really looking for is someone else who will continue to produce work at that level of quality so rarely seen. I see some potential, espceially in DragonBanana, but making something that's more than good and is great takes effort which many people don't have.

hey, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been watching you guys make some pretty kick ass animations. I've had my pivot for some time now. Most of mine are usually random and dont involve much plot.
I was wondering, how long does it take you guys to make those? It seems like you can do them in a second. And also, how do you add backgrounds to your animations? Last, should I post mine? Like I said, they're just random and jerky, and are very.........odd.........
EDIT: ok, some of my recent goodies. The first one down there is my first use of slo-mo. The second one is my first time using a good "create a figure type" and here is one that I personally like:

1. I was wondering, how long does it take you guys to make those? It seems like you can do them in a second. And also, how do you add backgrounds to your animations? Last, should I post mine?
This one took 90 minutues. However I think over 30 hours went into my "big fight" series (It wasn't really about a big fight, but that's how the first one opened and at the time I didn't know where it was going). File > Load Background. Yes.
2. Rundown of new pivoters.
Edy-innit- ok.
rocko213- promising
zip2119- amazing. I like your style.
3. My new pivot. I thought I was done forever, but I guess I'll never kick the Pivot habit. I'm thinking of making an encore pivot. 1500 frames, real story, nice graphics, the works. Maybe over winter break. But for now, here's something I threw together in the past hour and a half. Enjoy. And take from this tragic story an important lesson.

Glad my first complete pivot got a 'neutral' rather than negative response. Only took me a few minutes, 5 or 10 maybe, and i'm having to compete with using a 64MB RAM computer to do animations, save and upload them et cetera so it is really difficult... Anyway, i leave to Pivot some more!
EDIT: On that note, i quickly put together a crude pivot animation of my original pivot idea: the guy with a bad leg... not very good, its only a few minutes work, best bit is probably the 'clatter' effect of the leg on the floor

I need help!
Whenever I save them as GIFs, i get this little box come up about merge and stuff. It also asks me for frame delay, which i set to as low as possible. Unfortunately, it makes the pivots terribly choppy and, quite frankly, shit. Any advice?
Also, sometimes I get this glitch where in the GIF it just stops playing at a random point. And it made me cry because I spent 4 hours on a pivot and it then didnt work.
Any helpings would be muchly appreciated. Merci.

What actually happened was that i made it a smaller size (eg: 25) then made it double or triple (eg: 25 up to 50). It looks like its extending but is just being resized. It looks OK with the exception of the thickness also increasing. :(

I made a good way of showing webs, grappling lines etc.
Simply create a series of thickness 5 length 15 circles, all dynamic, all linked in a chain. I used 30 for my grapple beam, but you could (and probably should) use more, perhaps 60-70 for large-screen pivots and maybe 40-50 for smaller screen pivots.
This method is demonstrated in BH4, which also extolls the virtues of using Grapple beam and Morph ball in conjunction. BH3 is just more classic combat. BTW could somebody make an 800x600 bitmap of kind of an outside world, like in a desert? Paint should be fine. A .GIF is OK if you really must use it, but bitmaps preferred.

thats my favorite 1 out of the whole series. i liked the guy swimming and the part where he is climbing the ladder looks really good. i give it about an 8.5/10.
adding the person moving his arms when he walks might make the animation look better
oh, and chassibot, ur metroid animations are very cool except when i watch them, theres like a streak that anything moving in the movie leaves behind. is there a way to get rid of that cause its kinda annoying.
heres another movie i made. its kinda pointless, i promise my next 1s will have more plot and be a little more interesting. and probably a background too

Yeah, hover over the pic for a while, in the bottom/right hand corner just press the button that looks like a picture with four arrows coming out. What has happened is that your browser has resized the picture so it fits without scrolling.

Why does that sound familiar? :rolleyes:
OK, here are some of mine. Its like a series, but each one doesnt carry on from another - they just feature the same 2 characters, Mr Blue and Mr Red (or brown, whatever). Basically, in each one, they try to kill each other. After all, thats what Pivot is all about!
EDIT: I removed the pictures because they made yams' browser crash. Here be the links.

I still need some 800x600 backgrounds for my series. They need to be visually simplistic. Ideas include deserts, forests, maybe a lake etc.

What is everyone's record for maximum frames in an animation? Mine is over 600.
And then the GIF fucked up. I may put the .piv up file later so you can see what it was about. (Actually, it should be over 1000, but I divided it into 2 parts. It is Episode 4 of my SuperJim series, in case you are wondering.)

How do you get your Pivot work on your replies?
Plz tell me. :nana:
1) First save it as a GIF (when you save it, change it from a .piv to a .gif file).
2) Then go to an image hosting site like www.imageshack.us and upload your image.
3) When you post, use IMG tags and the url of your pic. For example, removing the spaces in this: [ IMG ]YOUR PICTURE URL GOES HERE[ /IMG ] will result in your picture. Alternately, type the URL of your image, highlight it and press the Insert Image button (the yellow square with mountains in it).
Hope i helped.

It's cool, but when you post more than one animation on a page, the signature is definatly going to slow things down alot {just like what you did abouve}
btw: I'm working on one of my most advanced piece of work ever. It's taking a long time to gather information and data. I'll just tell you some clue's so that some people wont steal my whole thing entirely {you guys wouldnt do that, would you??}
Some clues:
1.It's a matrix scene
2. Im doing alot of research on how people climb in this scene
3.I had to copy a picture of an assualt rifle into .stk format
4. Im using more than one background in this scene {im aware you cant put more than 1 background in pivot ;) }
5. It's probably going to take alot of time to make the dust, sneeze and bullet effects. If im not in a rush, i might add recoil
6. I might climb a ladder and tape it so I can figure out how to make the climbing look real in this scene {just like in the movies}
7. It might be alot of frames to make everything look perfect
8. and I dont have photoshop or anything like that if that's what you're thinking. It's all done entirely in pivot {except for the background{s} which is in paint, so its not a pivot background if that's what you're thinking too}
damn, I should be like the director of sales and marketing at Nintendo with my cool hyping skills {although I'd probably spend all day sitting in the bathroom with all the hype nintendo needs}

You do know there is something called an edit button right? You should really use it more, and I'd say its almost about time that you should just put the animation in the upload link thing. IT's really starting to slow down my computer to a crawl {and your signature doesnt really help}
EDIT: Im on a different computer and I downloaded the newest pivot on this. holy crap, i didnt realize how many features the pivot on my computer doesnt have!!! A clock!?!? A REALISTIC STICK MAN!?!?! A LADDER?!?!?
I NEED A LADDER FOR MY SOOO HYPED UP ANIMATION!!!
