Allrighty then, This has never been done before, but I'ma do it now.

This is a stockmarket game thing. For each person that buys a certain stock, the price goes up some amount. There will be around 20 stocks to choose from - PM me or post your stock type dealies and I will be around to update that as soon as I can. (donate el monies to me as well). Post up when you want to sell some shares. (I might as well waste my rupies, oh well...)

We first need agencies and people to "run them." about 10% of the monies I earn will go to el runners of the agencies (doesn't need to be real). But I will tell you: If i go broke because too many people sell their stocks, you'll pay for the sold shares.

Let's see those CEOs. (All stocks are 10 rupies at the moment until it goes up).

Is this even possible? How can you just make up fake stocks and trade them? There are no factors to affect stock price, so why would anyone ever sell? The price only goes up when people sell, but if nobody is selling, the price never goes up. And if someone was stupid enough to sell at the buying price, the price would just rise indefinitely. How would the price ever go down?
Plus, it would take a lot of time to organize and run.
Good idea though. With a number of changes, you might be able to make it work. They would have to be big changes though. Perhaps the stock price could be somehow affected by the activity of the forums, or of certain threads?

I think this will be extremely complicated to do and there isnt much, as Gnome said, to affect the prices. It would be interesting and someone has proposed this before (cant find thread) but never got anywhere. It would be something that would take A LOT of time and effort and is not just an idea to be tampered with if you just want to get rupies quick

I vote for running a stock market on posters. That way, say a reasonable newbie comes along, you can buy shares in them early before they're a recognised poster. If you think someones going to be modded, you buy shares in them. I think I'll run one of those stock markets if I can figure one out actually. Anyone want to be a partner in this with me.

when you want to sell stocks, you should have forum companies

i can imagine my Roulette, AngryPaul´s betting shop, and maybe the Confessional can be such companies.

for instance
if you buy a share of Roulette(TM) you get a part of the winnings, if and when i make a profit with a spin.
if the shares are populair, the prize will go up. if more people buy the shares the percentage of profit-shares will go down...

that would be nice, but only with very strict and very clear rules

I'll need someone who has a better idea of how stock markets work because otherwise I'll have no idea how to alter prices based on buying and selling.

I have got a rough outline though:

All people start with a share price of some arbitrary figure (as yet undecided)

People can then buy and sell shares in that person in a devoted thread, donating their rupies to me (I have nothing I especially want to buy so I won't accidentally spend it).

At the end of the "day" (probably around) 7 PM GMT trade will close for two hours whilst I work out how the prices have changed.

At 9 PM GMT I will reopen trade and post the updated prices.

If anyone is banned their share price will be set to zero during the next break in trade. So be careful not to buy to much stock in someone who is annoying the admins. If someone is unbanned then the price will be reset to what it was at pre banning.


I think this is a reasonable idea but I need someone to help me work out how to alter prices and any ideas on changes to the system will be welcome.

EDIT: I'm going to make a separate thread for this so that it doesn't interfere with gxfu's company based idea.

Obviously done under very strict conditions.

Would it just be such threads, etc. as The Confessional, your Roulette, AngryPaul's Betting Shop? Or would it be those threads and some posters if that's possible? Or is the posters part not structured enough to be done...
