SHUT UP, WESLEY!

The Stock Market Thread
The Stock Market Currently seeking thread owners
This is the stock market for the betting forums. It is a new idea, originally thought up by gxfu, so credit to him for the idea. Now I will explain how the stock market works. This will be split into two areas for the thread owners and the customers. The Thread Owners 1. Why Sell Shares? Well, by selling shares in your thread, you will insure a steady income through the sales of your stocks. Of course this means you lose a little controll over your thread. By selling a percentage of your thread, you are selling a percentage of your profits, meaning while you gain extra income from share sales. you lose income from your thread. 2. What exactly Am I Selling? You are selling only a percentage of your threads profit. You are by no means selling a percentage of your own rupies that you gain from outside of the specified thread. 3. What Happens If My Thread Dies? If your thread dies, or becomes inactive, the share prices will plummet. This means that you will no longer recieve such a steady amount of income from the stock exchange, and those who have already bought shares in your thread lose nearly all of the value of their stocks. 4. What Am I Liable For? Nothing. By buying shares in your thread, the customer is ultimatly taking a gamble that your threads income will rise. You are not liable for plummets or peaks in your shares price or value. So relax. The Customers 1. Why Buy A Share? By buying a share, you are effectivly buying a percentage of that threads income. Most new threads will start out quite cheap to buy into, and existing threads may be extreamly expencive to buy into. As time goes by, the value of your share will rise and fall. This may be due to intrest shown in the thread, income of the thread ect. 2. What If I Want To Sell? If you want to sell a share, you do so in this thread. Say you bought a share for 50 rupies. A week later, the same share is being sold by the thread owner for 200 rupies. You now have a share that you bought for 50 rupies that is now worth 200! Nows the tricky part. You decide to sell he share. To sell a share, you must come to this thread or PM me with the amount you with to sell it for. So say you have a share worth 200, you might want to sell it for 150 to get rid of it quickly, or if the demand is high, you might want to sell it for 250 rupies and so on. The trick of the stock market is knowing when to hold an investment, and when to get out. 3. Who Buys My Shares? Other forum members and the thread owners. You may end up selling the share on to another forum member. That forum member then gains the percentage of the profits from that thread that you owned.Confussing? Well. Say you had a share worth 50 rupies that was worth 5% of the threads income. You then sell it to someone else for 50 rupies. You then lose the 5% you previously owned in the that thread, and the buyer gains the 5%. Another possibility is that the thread owner might want to buy the share back from you. This may be becuase he/she isn't gaining enough income, and wishes to own some of the percentage of the profits that you own. This is easily done and the thread owner then owns more of his own thread than previously. 4. How Many Shares Can I buy? As many as you want, but you should consider the following first. The owner of the thread chooses the percentage of his/her thread they wish to sell as shares. So PoofBird may choose to make 50% of his thread available to be bought. With this in mind, shares are now sold. Now, say 100 shares are sold in Poofbirds lotto. This will mean that the 100 shares are worth a total of 50% of poofbirds profit. If you own 10, then you own 5% of poofbirds profit, and so on. How the shares work Bought a share? Wandering 'what now?'. Well. Over time, the share you just bought will increase and decrease in value. Every time someone buys a share in the same thread, the price and value of the shares rises by 5%. Also, should the thread start to increase its weekly income, the share prices will rise. However, bad publicity for the thread (spamming, plugging ect) may cause your share to drop, and inactivity and/or deletion of the thread could compleatly void all your shares. But then, thats all the fun of the stock market. The Market This is the actuall stock matrket. Threads values are shown, along with some other information you may consider when purchasing a share. Remember though, this is just a basis for the stock market for people to have a look at and decide if it will work.
Also, views on how I'v set it up would be great. Obviously views on how it can be improved are even better. Especially around how non-profit threads could be brought into it. |

erm....i think i getcha, this seems like a fun idea, and i think it may just be able to pull off. One question though: whats to stop people trying to boost interest on their own threads by replying to their own threads for no reason(hence bumping it back up the list) or by subtly linking to it in other threads? will there be any sanctions for people who are blatantly just spamming their own thread to boost interest ?

As myself and whoever else wants to be invoved will be ultimatly dictating the price for each share, share prices will go down if those events occur. This is because if a thread is needing to be spammed just to keep up, then it is obviously not active enough to support a decent income. Thus share prices plummet.

yes. Lets not forget this wouldn't have been thought of if it wasn't for gxfu and everyone from the other two threads showing intrest.
Lets hope that thread owners will show intrest too. *starts throwing paper-balls at angrypaul and streety to get their attention* |

Hmm..
I think this will only work decently well if a couple more lottos or compos start, because there are very little threads with steadt incomes barring streetys and angrypauls betting shops. Another way it could be done is if it where funded properlly. The members could start by buying their own company for a set amount of rupies. Other members could then buy stocks in their company and depending on the owners income and expenditure of rupies, the price of their stock would rise and fall. That would prob work if it was done well, and it would need severe mod funding. |

![]() I'm I will most likely be putting up shares for my Betting Shop, but its not in this forum, will that matter to your idea? Also I still dont understand how we share the profits coming into the thread, if we, the thread owner, wont actually be paying-out rupies ![]() [edit] Had another look and it becmome clearer eg - Betting Shop makes £100 in one week, if i sold 50% of the thread i would have to allow £50 of that to go to shareholders Am I right? Would I have to personally donate to shareholders or to you to pay-out? [/edit]

I dont quite get ya
Ok. Say people pay you 1000 rupies in bets. Only one person wins and gets 500, so you make 500 profit. That 500 rupies is then divided between yourself and your share-holders depending on the amount of shares. So if shareholders own 50% of your profits, you pay out 250 rupies between all of the shareholders (obviously people with more shares get more rupies). Its pretty much the point brought up in 'Thread owners', point 2.. "2. What exactly Am I Selling? You are selling only a percentage of your threads profit. You are by no means selling a percentage of your own rupies that you gain from outside of the specified thread. The point of the stock market thread is it makes it easier. Instead of you having to work out how much money goes to each shareholder, you would just send me (using the example above again) 250 rupies and I would look through notes and see who owns what, and send the rupies accordingly. Obviously you dont have to sell them in this thread, but if you want, your thread can be put up where poofbirds is and people can then buy them THROUGH me, so I would send you the rupies. Does that answer your question because I wasn't quite sure what you ment...tis early and i'm tired. =_= edit: Say your edit, And I think I covered what your asking. Opening.
Ok, I'm gunna try opening this. All thread owners within the betting area (and angrypauls on in bestest), if you wish to sell stocks here, you must fill out the following form and post it or PM me with it.
Name: Your threads name Percentage of Profit in shares: How much of your profit you wish to make available for shares. Average is around 50% Average weekly income: Take an average week of betting and work out how much income you gained. This will be a factor in how much your shares are worth. Thanks. |
