Salary Cap good?

Is the salary cap good to have in any sport?

I think that the salary cap needs to be removed for two major reasons.
First, the salary cap prevents teams from keeping veteran players around. Take football(American) for example. Without the salary cap, veteran players who would be kept around to help younger players get better and only to play a bit can not be kept around because of the salary cap restrictions. They are forced into the open market, having to move to a new team, possibly from an old team that they have been with their whole lives, and can not be kept around to form the one thing that every fan wants, a dynasty. The play in football will just keep getting worse and worse until the salary cap is removed.

Second, the salary cap is not needed. The NFL and the NBA brought in the salary cap to let all teams, small and big market, to have an equal chance to win every year. Well, thats great and all, but look at the champs over the years for basketball (Spurs, Lakers, Lakers, Lakers) and for footballl (Patriots, Bucaneers, Patriots). Doesn't seem to be working too much. Also look at a sport without a salary cap, baseball. If one was to look at the past champions, it would look something like this (Marlins, Angels, Diamondbacks, Yankees), with three out of the four teams being small market teams. I mean look at the Yankees now. They are supposed to be this $180 uber-team, but instead they are a team with a high salary playing average baseball, while some of the best teams in baseball are small market teams, like the Rangers, Marlins, Padres, Anaheim, and Minnesota. So it would seem that the goal of the salary cap is working in baseball, where there is no cap.
